exhibition for UNNO Gallery,

mexico city, 2023
An exhibition during Zona Maco, art week in Mexico City, showcasing designers and artists from Mexican gallery UNNO, including Ian Felton, Ohla Studio, Abel Carcamo, Cesar Nunez, Rodrigo Pinto, Ruth Sofia, Mat Trumbll.
The exhibition hold in the Central Library, designed by Juan O'Gorman, Gustavo Saavedra, and Juan M. Velazco. In this place, Juan O'Gorman created his magnificent stone mural, conceiving it as 'poesia en Piedra' (poetry in stone) that speaks of the creation of our cosmos and the knowledge that surrounds it, as well as the pride of a free and revolutionary developing country.
UNAM is a symbol of revolutionary ideas, progress, history, and a nostalgic memory of the greatness of modern Mexico. Between 30’s-70’s a new architecture and pictoric movement came to life through the ideals of intellectuals that wanted to give the Mexican social revolution a real Mexican architecture meant to be for everyone and not only for a selected group. The university city is a syncretism based on the Bauhaus socialist principles and the “arte popular”. Through Muralism, the most influential characters narrate in murals Mexico’s mestizo identity, the struggle of classes, battles, sufferings, Marxian political ideals, and legacy portrayed in the buildings.
