altre metafore is an experimental workshop of the school of architecture of the Milan Polytechnic that aims to retrace the research that Ettore Sottsass had carried out in the early 1970s. “Appunti Spaziali,” temporary architectures inserted into the volcanic landscape of the island of lanzarote retrace the question that haunted Ettore Sottsass: ”what relations can there be between people, thoughts and the space where they stand ?”
If the question is always the same, the answers can no longer be the same. globalization, new media, climate change, and new instances of contemporaneity are rewriting the anthropological value of our existence and thus of our projects.
altremetafore is a challenge that accepts failure anddoes not pretend to give answers, but wants to recover that time for reflection and critique that new generations in particular can intercept.
8 ephemeral metaphors lasting 24 hours were constructed by student groups on the island of Lanzarote.
1.do you want a warm house or a fire to warm you?
2.balcony to lean against the horizon
3.fence to stop time
4.ladder to climb the abyss
5.door to a deep space
6.room to overcome one's limits
7.wall to shape the colors
8.there is always a home for your rituals
